What was Sam going to see taking place in the work room?

How long does it take Herman to create an "idea"

What was Sam going to see when Herman was done?

What was it Herman had made?

What is Sam going to think of his new companion?

And what does Blue think of Sam.

Now Sam watched intently...Herman had taken the boiling blue dye water off the cooker.  He drained out the blue water and put all the blue feathers in a strainer to dry.  Then he got out his glue gun...sodder gun...and began putting the blue material he had ripped up back together. After a long while...it began to take on shape.  It was not flat like Sam...but was more puffed out...and it seemed somewhat round...what could it be.

gensama.gif (2387 bytes) Sam stretched forward a little...trying to see what Herman was doing now.  He could hear noises...like a soft wind blowing...then silence.  Herman walked around to the other end of the work table...Sam couldn't see anymore...

Early the next morning Herman sat down.  He looked at Sam..."How did you get in here?  Did I bring you in...well...you might as well meet...Blue Bird."

He went over to the other end of the table again...and came back.   The blue shape was filled out and was different.  It had points and strange long shapes....and some of the feathers were glued onto the outside of Blue Bird...and Sam realized here was the "idea"  But what ever the "idea" had created...Sam couldn't decide if he liked it or not.

blbrda.gif (1540 bytes)Herman carried Blue Bird out into the living room...strung some clear thread through his two wings...and fastened them to the ceiling...but Blue Bird wasn't just any mobile...no....he was a little different....when the wind blew...or heater fan passed over him...he would sway back and forth...going higher and higher until he swung back and forth as if flying...and somehow Herman had managed to add something extra...what it was Herman never told...but Blue Bird would sing...as the wind blew...and he flew.  And if you listened very closely...and knew Herman quite well...which Sam did...you would recognize the tune he was singing as the nameless tune he had hummed as he had made Blue Bird.

Herman carried Sam back out into the living room...and placed him in his usual corner...now as Herman went about his daily deeds and do's...Sam had company..."Hello..Blue....my name is Sam...and I am a green, fluffy, cat carry round.  You are Blue Bird Singing, Flying, going nowhere...Mobile."

blbrda.gif (1540 bytes)Blue Bird stopped singing.  Even though the windows were open...and a nice breeze was coming through the room...the bird stopped singing.  He adjusted his flight just enough to look down into the corner.  "Well..." he said, "hello...and just what does a green, fluffy cat carryround do...I mean beside just sit in the corner.  Do you go places...."

For the first time...Sam had a friend...someone he could share his thoughts and dreams with...someone he could mutter...mutter...with...someone who might understand some of his wishes and dreams...and as for Blue Bird...he thought Sam was very green and fluffy...and a little talkative...but on the whole he didn't mind...what he minded was the endless...tuneless...tune he, himself, kept humming.... to be continued
